Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the uterus. The cancer begins in the lining (endometrium) or the cells of the uterus. This cancer is detected early as it causes abnormal vaginal bleeding and thus warrants an immediate visit to the doctor. Among other cancers of the uterus, endometrial cancer is the most common.

Symptoms-

The symptoms of endometrial cancer are:

  1. You may experience irregular bleeding in between periods.
  2. A watery discharge from the vagina.
  3. You may have bleeding from the vagina postmenopausal.
  4. You may have pain in the pelvic floor muscles.

There is no exact known cause for endometrial cancer. A genetic mutation occurs in the endometrium wherein the normal cells become abnormal. These cells start to multiply very quickly, and form a tumor like mass. They can then spread to other cells and affect other tissues in the adjoining regions.

There are certain factors that may increase your chances of being affected by endometrial cancer, them being:

  1. Aging increases the chances of this disease, especially post menopause.
  2. Being overweight can cause hormonal imbalance.
  3. Certain drugs used in hormone therapy.
  4. Early onset of menstruation, especially before 12 years of age.

Treatment-

Radiation Therapy: This treatment procedure involves using radiations such as X-rays to target and destroy the cancer cells.

Hormone Therapy: In this therapy, medicines are administered to correct hormonal imbalances in the body. This remedy is preferred if the cancer progresses to an advanced age.

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is a type of treatment where chemicals are administered orally or injected through the veins, in order to destroy the malignant growths.

Surgery: Surgery is the main treatment if it is limited to uterus. Removal of uterus Cx both tubes and ovaries.
